Nelson Mandela Madiba Tata Tribute

Prayers, memories and well-wishes are starting to flow via Facebook, and other online media. The general feeling throughout South Africa is one of

"We wish you well, we love you, we release you."

My Memory of Tata, Nelson Mandela:

My memory of Madiba is a silly yet awesome one, I sang at the KKNK (http://www.kknk.co.za/) in 2000, and we were present at one of Madiba's speeches. I sat in the 10th or so row and had the privilege of hearing him speak to us. He very kindly waved and said "Hello!" to me through the mic when I waved and called out to him.

I was so overwhelmed that I got out my old Nokia and recorded a portion of his speech, instantly making it my Voice-mail message (in the days before online social media how else would my friends ever 'hear' that I had met him!) Well, the awesome thing was this, When I later listened to the recording (and after a few of my friends left awe-filled voice messages on my phone)

I realised that Madiba had said these words as I recorded him:

"And so, at this time, we are not able, to answer. But, as a nation, we will! We will answer!"

I kept it as my voice-mail tone for about 3 years (until the phone died) and it will always be my special Madiba memory :) What is your memory of him?

The following is a beautiful message regarding Madiba, written by Captain Paul Watson:

"In Praise of Madiba, Nelson Mandela was a terrorist, a convict, a communist, an accused saboteur and an enemy of the State!

He was also one of them greatest heroes of the last century, He achieved in South Africa what even Mahatma Gandhi was unable to do and he did in a way that respected all of humanity.

This is a man who evolved above the pettiness of racial conflict, a man who saw with profound clarity that South Africa was not a Black nation, a Coloured nation or a White nation. He saw South Africa as a great nation with opportunities for all people no matter their colour, their tribe, their religion, or their culture...

...But finally after years of struggle and hardship, apartheid was overthrown and Nelson Mandela became the first Black President of South Africa. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace. The U.S. presented him with the Medal of Freedom and the Soviet Union presented him with The Order of Lenin. Yet he still officially remained on the list of people barred from entry to the United States.

In 1969 or anytime during the Seventies, the very idea that Nelson Mandela would one day be President of South Africa was an impossible thought. No one, not even Mandela himself could imagine such a possibility. It was simply impossibility.

And yet it happened. The impossible became possible and in achieving that position, in winning the Nobel prize, Mandela gave a gift to all of us and that was the gift of hope, the realization that no matter how daunting the situation, no matter how formidable the obstacles, that passion, courage and imagination can prevail.

Madiba is now 94 years old and we may lose him soon. But what we will never lose is the legacy of this great man, the ideas that he transformed into reality, the dreams that he made real. The strength of his convictions, and the passion, and kindness of his heart.

We all die but few have lived as Nelson Mandela lived, few have achieved as much as he was able to achieve.

Even his prison number 46664 (meaning prisoner 466 incarcerated in 1964) is now the name of a humanitarian charitable organization. Mandela has been able to turn all the opposition against him in his life into tools to make this a better world.

The last one hundred years have given us very few exceptionally great inspirational and peaceful leaders. The three most influential have been Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela and only one of them was a President of a nation although I believe King would have become the greatest President of the United States if he had not been assassinated by a coward. Gandhi was also assassinated.

I am happy that Mandela was able to live a long and remarkable life.

He not only served his country with exceptional honour, he has served all of mankind with dignity and amazing grace."

Take care Tata.

1. Many people who have tried this concoction found it to be effective in boosting their body metabolism and helpful in their weight loss efforts. I have tried it for general detox purposes and have found it to be especially helpful in moving my bowel. However, many are hesitant to try this concoction due to the intimidating prospect of a spicy mixture direct. From the various feedback posts on this mixture, I gathered there are two extreme reactions to its taste - "love it" or "hate it". And what do I personally say about the taste? If you are using Cassia/Chinese cinnamon, it's pungent, spicy, and woody. The honey in it definitely makes it much more palatable. (Note: In Ayurvedic medicine, it is believed that honey enhances the medicinal effectiveness of the cinnmaon formulation.) I recommend you check out Ceylon cinnamon, which is also known as the real cinnamon. It is much milder and more pleasant in aroma and highly contrasted with Cassia cinnamon in taste. Also, it doesn't seem to produce an offensive blob of slime that you see when mixing Cassia cinnamon with hot water. Its exorbitant price and lack of accessibilty is however a big deterrent for many consumers.

2. Honey is added only half an hour after mixing the cinnamon and boiling water, so that the healthy enzymes in the honey are kept alive.
Drug companies won't like this one getting around. Facts on Honey and Cinnamon:

It is found that a mix of PURE honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also note honey as very effective medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without side effects which is also a plus. Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, when it is taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm even diabetic patients. Researched by western scientists:

HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, put it on toast instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol and could potentially save one from heart attack. Also, even if you have already had an attack studies show you could be kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of cinnamon honey strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as one ages the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and the veins.

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients can benefit by taking one cup of hot water with two tablespoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. When taken daily even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week (out of the 200 people so treated) practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain -- and within a month, most all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis now started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder....who knew?

CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water given to a cholesterol patient was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, when taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol-could be cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and, clear the sinuses, and it's delicious too!

GAS: According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that when Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

FATIGUE: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, even when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, when taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M., the vitality of the body increases within a week.

Dianne Kohler Barnard SAPS Budget Statement - Political

I have placed each point that Dianne makes on a new line, to make googling etc easier. There has to be a point where South Africa says 'enough'

There are many good cops, working hard for their communities... And I salute you men and women who have the right attitude and who follow the law.

"The Marikana Massacre,
Mido Macia,
Andries Tetane,
a court interpreter dragged by the neck,
SAPS members filmed brutally assaulting civilians,
153 SAPS stations without water, electricity, toilets or all three,
SAPS members locked out as leases lapse,
SIU investigations into the two national police days,
Seven multi-million rand contracts currently under investigation,
a failure to reopen the specialised units closed by that disgrace Jackie Selebi,
Felon Jackie Selebi at home in his mansion still owing taxpayers R14-million,
a third appointment of non-police officer as National Police Commissioner,
the failure to de-militarise the SAPS as per the NDP,
32,8% of the budget set aside for contingent liabilities...
R20-billion we expect to pay to civilians raped... beaten... robbed by cops,
Guptagate,
R4-billion to consultants,
zero dismissals for the 13,000 lost SAPS firearms,
R96-pa to send cops to South Sudan and Darfur,
the multi-million rand AVL SAPS car tracking system contract lapsed because Cele signed the renewal 3 days after it expired,
reservists turned away since 2008,
20% of detectives untrained,
just 3,3% of cops trained in sexual offences,
27,000 cops with firearms,
but no licences,
16,594 cops without drivers licences and,
in 5 years there will be no rhinos left at Kruger National Park.

These are a few of the reasons why the DA will not support the handing over of this budget to the current SAPS management. This was my declaration."
